Even though it’s only a 4 and a half hour drive from Washington D.C. to NYC, Jason wanted to stop by the town of his Alma Mater, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to get philly cheesesteaks, french fries and Gremlin drinks. The Gremlin drink is a mixture of grape juice and lemonade.
Since it was still raining buckets, we all enjoyed the cheesesteaks in the car and Natalie and Jason let me sample their meals. After trying a true philly cheesesteak, I would have no problem making my home in Philadelphia when we return home from Geneva in the next couple of years!
Our hotel in New York was in the Hell’s Kitchen district and was called Ink48. This hotel is also a Kimpton. Jason likes these hotels because they have unique style, are dog-friendly and don’t charge extra for my types.
Our first evening in New York City was a memorable one. Jason and Natalie first took me for a walk around the Hell’s Kitchen/Theater District section of New York City. I got to see restaurant row, which is on 46th Street between 8th and 9th avenues. Unfortunately, it was raining a bit that evening, so, there was no outdoor seating available (American restaurants are not that amenable to dogs sitting inside restaurants. Europe, on the other hand, lets dogs in almost everywhere! Therefore, rain would not be an issue.)
After touring restaurant row, I got to see Times Square! All the lights and sound were almost overwhelming, but I managed to get over it quickly after discovering the many smells of this exciting neighborhood.
(This is me in Times Square in front of all the lights!)
Since our walk took over an hour and it was getting really late, Natalie and Jason decided not to go back out for dinner and, instead, got a drink from the very scenic rooftop bar at the hotel and then ordered in from a 24-hour diner down the street. It is very true that New York never sleeps!
As usual, the bed at the Kimpton was more than comfortable and we slept plenty well and were well rested in preparation for our second day of adventures in New York!
Paws,
Sabrina
