Queen Mary 2 Day Six: May 4, 2010

By this point in the voyage, I was actually really starting to have some fun!

I spent a good part of the day playing tug of war with Bubba, with what Natalie and Jason most affectionately call my ‘security heart.’ The ‘security heart’ is a fuzzy, squeaky toy that’s shaped like a heart. The reason it is a ‘security’ is because I kept a heart just like this one right by my side when I had all the heartworm troubles almost 5 years ago.  That particular heart lasted me a very long time, until Natalie and Jason deemed it unsanitary and had to toss it.

Unfortunately, between my 65 lbs of stubborn and Bubba’s 40 lbs of pure bulldog strength, we pretty much ripped that heart in two.  Even more unfortunately, I lost each of the three times Bubba and I played tug-of-war. Natalie likes to tell people I let Bubba win, because he is younger than me. In reality, though, I really just wanted to keep my teeth intact, in order to enjoy all the great European food once (and if ever!) I got off the ship.

In addition to Natalie and April’s usual schedule, they, along with Bubba’s mom Maya, went to afternoon tea at the Queen’s Room. I was a little peeved since this conflicted with my 3-6pm visiting hours. However, Bubba’s dad Ed stayed up in the kennels while they were enjoying their tea and he did his best to keep me busy.

Afternoon tea consisted of Earl Grey tea served in fancy Wedgwood china. Bite-sized sandwiches and mini-desserts were served along with the tea. The sandwiches included cucumber and salmon and desserts included little tarts and linzer cookies. Natalie helped herself to most of the desserts and April stuck with the sandwiches.

After tea and after my visiting hours were over, Natalie and April visited their new favorite bar. The bar was called the Commodore Club, which was on the 9th deck in the front part of the ship. The atmosphere was comfortable and most of all they enjoyed the inventive drinks. The drinks were twists on the classics and included foam! On this particular evening, April had a margarita with orange foam and Natalie had a mojito was crème de menthe foam!

The evening attire was formal wear again; therefore, Natalie and April skipped the Brittania again. This time they went to Lotus, which is the Asian-themed restaurant in the King’s Court.  The food was interesting and some items, such as the fried spring rolls, were quite tasty. Other items though, such as the doughy rice dessert served alongside wasabi crème brulee, did not satisfy as much.

After dinner, Natalie and April decided to go back to the room…I know, I almost fell out of my comfy chair when I heard this, as well. Apparently, they were tired. I guess afternoon tea really did them in.

I turned in early myself – after a previous night of swaying and a day full of tug of war, I was definitely ready for a good nights sleep.

Paws,
Sabrina
