Our first morning in NYC was all about squirrels! Jason and Natalie took me to Central Park. Little did I know this was a playground for those tree-climbing, nut-eating, dog-taunting creatures!
For those of you that don’t personally know me, I am extraordinarily obsessed with squirrels. Natalie likes to say that I lose all ‘sense of sensibility’ when I see a squirrel. That’s okay, though. It’s the Red Bone Coonhound in me!
Even though Natalie and Jason wouldn’t let me off leash, I managed to drag them around as I chased the little creatures all over the park. Once I got my fill of squirrel chasing, we walked back to the hotel, cleaned up and then ventured into Brooklyn.
Even though I didn’t understand why we were going into Brooklyn, it was certainly a lot of fun to cross the Brooklyn Bridge and have an outdoor lunch at a café called Siggy’s Good Foods (luckily, the on and off again rain was ‘off’ for the time being). Both Natalie and Jason had tuna sandwiches (no mayo, of course – Natalie repulses at the sight of it) and garlic-lentil soup. It was a refreshing change from all the road food. Even I was getting a bit tired of pulled pork, burgers and French fries.
After lunch, my day changed for the worse. I had to go to the Vet! Who does that on vacation, or whatever it was we’ve been doing since the middle of March?!
Luckily, all I got was a quick tick and tapeworm treatment, which essentially consisted of some gel-like stuff being squeezed onto my neck and a kind-of tasty tablet the doctor gave me. According to Natalie this treatment was the last step necessary for boarding me on the Queen Mary 2 ship. I can’t wait to meet Queen Mary – I’ve certainly been prepped enough for it!
After getting out of the Vet as quickly as possible, Natalie dragged Jason to yet another bakery in Brooklyn Heights. The bakery was called Almondine. Natalie and Jason enjoyed Napoleons and apricot pastries, along with a passionfruit macaron.
We ventured back into Manhattan and after going for a walk in the city, we headed back to the hotel, so, Natalie and Jason could get ready for dinner, which was going to be at Le Bernardin! Le Bernardin is a French seafood restaurant in the Theater district and has 3 Michelin stars. It is run by one of Natalie’s favorite chefs, Eric Ripert. Of course, I had to be left in the room, but I didn’t mind as long as I could watch some TV and got a full report when they returned.

Well, I did get a full report and Natalie and Jason got their fill of a variety of seafood, including lobster in a citrus-butter sauce!
After a busy day, we all crawled into bed to rest up for day 3 in New York!
Paws,
Sabrina
