Queen Mary 2 Last Full Day: May 7, 2010

My last full day on the ship was turning out to be the coldest yet! Our journey from Southampton to Hamburg took us through the North Sea - the winds and rain over the sea were acting up quite a bit, so much of my playtime on the deck was limited to 5 minutes at a time, max, as it was just too cold to be outside.

Therefore, most of the day was spent inside under blankets (well, for me at least. Natalie, April and Dayle did not have blankets.)

(All of us bundled up in one way, or another, while sitting in the kennels!)

When Natalie and April weren't up visiting me, they kept to their normal schedule, which included a workout, lunch and more scrabble. I think the final tally had Natalie winning one more game than April...although, I believe that still may be up for dispute.

For Natalie and April's last evening on the QM2, they enjoyed drinks at both the Chart Room and the Commodore Club. Dinner was at the Carvery in the King's Court. The menu was starting to get very foreign to April and Natalie as 90% of the ship's passengers now consisted of German people and therefore, the food was becoming very German. In fact, Natalie and April were mistaken for Germans a number of times and had to ask for the English menu. It sure would've been helpful if Jason were there as he's fluent in the language!

After dinner and drinks, Natalie and April, along with the rest of the ship stood outside to watch the ship enter Hamburg. Luckily, the weather was starting to warm up (and dry up!) a bit and Natalie and April did have a covered balcony; therefore, it was much more enjoyable to stand outside.

To get into Hamburg, the ship needs to go down the Elbe River. Land could be seen from the ship on both sides and as we all neared Hamburg, there was definitely a party happening on the land in anticipation of the QM2's arrival (from what Natalie told me the next morning Jason was at the party, as well, awaiting my arrival.) I, of course, didn't see any of this as it was nighttime and I was in my kennels; however, I could definitely hear the horn of the ship, the fireworks and a lot of cheering.

(Hamburg lit up in anticipation of the QM2's arrival!)

Natalie and April looked out at the parties and celebrations as they were nearing port (wishing they could be there celebrating too!) and eventually headed to bed.

The next morning we all woke up to a very stable boat, as it had finally docked. I was getting excited...this would be the day I'd get to walk to the other side of the gate!

Paws,
Sabrina
