The Queen Mary 2: April 29, 2010

Jason, Natalie, April and I arrived in Brooklyn, had a tasty breakfast and then drove to the Brooklyn Terminal to meet this Queen Mary 2 – I could not believe my eyes!

The Queen Mary 2 is the largest ship I’ve ever seen (I really haven’t seen any ships, but, Natalie told me that this would be the largest ship I’d ever see.) The ship is so big Natalie that Jason couldn’t get the entire ship into a picture on their iPhones.

(A picture of the ship....well, most of it)

At the Brooklyn Terminal, some nice people took our luggage and based on the hugs I was receiving from Jason, it seemed like he was saying goodbye to all of us.

Sure enough, Jason left and Natalie, April and I walked through security at the Brooklyn Terminal. Then, we all just sat in an area at the corner of the terminal and surprisingly enough, there were a few other canines in this sitting area, as well. Natalie said we needed to wait for the person to check all my papers before I got on the ship. It looks like I was actually going to get on this massive boat!

The person came over and confirmed that Natalie filled out the papers correctly.  Our next step was to check in. Natalie and April took me over to the check in desk. I didn’t have anything to do, but they had to take a picture and hand over their credit cards.  I had a feeling that this whole ship thing could get dangerous for those two!

After check-in, we walked back to the sitting area where my papers got checked and then a person named Dayle walked me, Natalie, April and the other dogs and their owners through a doorway and onto the ship. I was getting on the Queen Mary 2!

We walked through some posh looking walkways and I could just smell luxury all around me. We took an elevator and got near to the top of the ship (or, the 12th deck according to Natalie). I was then led into a gated area of the deck and inside that gated area there were rooms with (gasp!) kennels! I didn’t sign up for this…I thought I was going to get to hang out in the nice, posh area with Natalie and April – besides; it was my job to keep them in line.  To make matters worse, Natalie actually put me in the kennel (double gasp!) All the other owners put their pups in their kennels and based on the dog-chatter, none of the other canines were that happy about the situation, either.

It was quite a few hours before Natalie came back up to see me and although I was quite irritated with being in the kennels, I did get to know the other dogs during that time. There were 7 dogs, including me; a French-English bulldog named Bubba; two Pugs by the names of Chester and Tibbit; a black lab named Tetley; a Cocker Spaniel named Murphy and a little white, fluffy dog (I have a lot of trouble pronouncing the type – all I know is it sounds French) named Louis. Our Kennel Master was the same person who walked me to the kennels. His name again was Dayle.

Natalie came back to visit me after the ship started sailing and I was not happy. I was so mad, I started crying and jumping on her and tried to sit on her lap. I know that Natalie felt really bad for me, but I also know there was nothing she could do.

She put me in the kennel again after a short visit and came back a couple hours later to see me again. I didn’t act any more mature and cried even harder. By the smell of it, though, I don’t think Natalie was sharing in my remorse. I could smell beer on her and apparently, she and April hung out on the 8th floor deck poolside bar while I was kenneled up in this very unfamiliar place!

(A picture of the grand lobby inside the ship - see what I mean about it being posh!)

(The room number and the inside of Natalie and April's room - already a mess!)

Natalie then put me back in the kennel again and I had a feeling this would be the last time I’d see her for the evening (I was right).

I had a horrible night’s sleep, which was the first one I’ve had in a while – I wasn't too sure about this Queen Mary 2 so far, and all I wanted was to be with my Natalie and April in what I’d imagine was a very comfortable room inside the ship.

Paws,
Sabrina
